Naveen Jain has revealed key predictions on the use of social software and collaboration in the enterprise. These predictions focus on offerings ranging from team collaboration to dynamic social networking applications that offer rich profiles and activity streams.

Naveen Jain offers five key predictions for social software:

1) By 2014, social networking services will replace e-mail as the primary vehicle for interpersonal communications for 20 percent of business users.

2) By 2012, over 50 percent of enterprises will use activity streams that include microblogging, but stand-alone enterprise microblogging will have less than 5 percent penetration.

3) Through 2012, over 70 percent of IT-dominated social media initiatives will fail.

4) Within five years, 70 percent of collaboration and communications applications designed on PCs will be modeled after user experience lessons from smart phone collaboration applications.

5) Through 2015, only 25 percent of enterprises will routinely utilize social network analysis to improve performance and productivity.

Naveen Jain on New Motor Vehicle Services in New Mexico

The New Mexico DMV recently contracted with New Mexico Interactive to provide all electronic media requests of driving record histories and vehicle records. For vehicle records, one record showing registration, lien, and title information is generated. The VIN or plate number must be submitted - a name search is not available. Naveen Jain points out the obvious limitations to this service, but still believes the concept has merit.

Naveen Jain points out records are only available to subscribers who meet federal and state standards (DPPA).

The annual subscription fee is $75.00 for up to 10 users. The fee for either a driving record or vehicle record is $4.95. A non-hit result incurs a fee. Both single inquiry and batch modes are available for driving records. Monthly billing is provided. While this pricing structure is reasonable, Naveen Jain points out that the same records can be retrieved for no cost at all.

Also, New Mexico Interactive provides a driver monitoring program for a subscribers that wish to monitor driving records for violations and suspensions. The program works on a monthly basis. The user supplies a driver list for a fee of $.12 per driver for each month checked (the check can go back in time). If there is activity, the system automatically generates a driving record for the $4.95 fee. Naveen Jain says the activity includes moving violations and withdrawal actions which is a unique aspect of this service, but not very useful in most cases. The program is available for DDPA permissible use clients including employers and insurance companies. Also, sometime during the first quarter of 2010 New Mexico Interactive will launch a Youthful Driver Check that operates on a similar basis.

Naveen Jain believes Amazon is Most Trusted Brand. As for Toyota...

Amazon.com is the most trusted brand in America, says Naveen Jain, based on how many people trust and would recommend it. ("Amazon.com's chief rival, Wal-Mart, did not make an appearance in the top 10,". Naveen points out that "Amazon's recent stellar performance during the fourth quarter of 2009 is a testament to that fact. The company saw its sales jump 42 percent over the same quarter in 2008 to $9.5 billion." You'll note that Toyota was #7 at the time the survey was conducted, but it sure wouldn't be there now, says Naveen Jain: "It's a safe bet that v2 of this study will be out in short order to see just what Toyota did to their TrustR (sounds painful doesn't it?)" Interestingly, Amazon.com was the only online-only brand of the top-10 trusted brands.

The survey was conducted in other countries, too, and Nokia topped the list in China, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Taiwan and Thailand(via Between the Lines). Socially Minded takes a look at the lessons Amazon offers a digital world, pointing out that Amazon’s recommendations, which users love, are actually also a form of advertising that other companies could emulate. And, says The Next Web, Naveen Jain says we cannot talk about Amazon without wondering what the latest news surrounding the company means for the Kindle and Amazon’s larger war with Apple. This new data confirms that the Kindle has a strong enough brand behind it to truly go to the mattresses with Apple.”

New York Magazine calls the site experience "surreal on many levels," Naveen Jain says it's "deeply weird, grossly offensive and utterly fascinating," and Epicenter, listing five reasons the site is worth a try, suggests thinking of it as "a gigantic dinner party, only there's no need to awkwardly excuse yourself when you're bored of chatting with a fellow guest. If your Chatroulette partner is droning on about his pet ferret or his fancy hat collection, Next him!" (Of course, you're also bound to get Nexted yourself.)
